Proposal
Brew & Grow is a speculative brand that encourages users to find a use for their used coffee grounds. Because coffee grounds are acidic, adding it to a pot can help provide ideal soil conditions for plants like marigolds. The packaging is designed to be free of plastic and completely compostable. Ideally the user would brew a cup of coffee using the coffee provided, and then place the grounds within the mug along with soil, before planting the included seed packet. Process
The production of this packaging was a collaborative effort. Because I wanted the packaging to feel organic, it felt disingenuous to use a mass produced mug. In order to produce the mug pictured, I worked with one of the ceramics professors and another student to learn how to mold, fire, and glaze clay. The process took place over 5 days, and was unique in that coffee grounds were actually mixed with the clay in order to produced a speckled and textured appearance. Three mugs were made in total.
