Coronavirus Poster Series

Background

In March of 2020, lockdown began. Classes originally intended to be taken in person, were moved to an online format, which brought new challenges. Our professor, Archana Shekara took the transition as an opportunity to introduce a very contemporary project. Create an informative series about coronavirus. I began my research by investigating how coronavirus was impacting my local community, and found that as a result of the pandemic, Lake County was facing a severe blood shortage. Knowing that this could add a new layer of health issues within the community, I went to work creating a series that would promote blood donation during this time.

Proposal

Covid-19 has brought fear and uncertainty throughout the world, though social distancing methods are slowing limiting the spread, we can’t forget that their are other issues stemming from the pandemic that are worth our attention. One of the many cancellations in 2020 is that of blood drives. In America nearly 43,000 units of blood are needed a day for cancer treatments, surgeries, the care of premature infants, and more. As a result of the pandemic, over 150,000 donations were cancelled, leaving only an 11 day supply of blood. Without the independent actions of the young and the healthy, we could face yet another medical crisis on top of the infamous coronavirus.

Purpose

To educate the community on the importance of blood donation, while also assuring them that the proper precautions are being taken to protect them from Covid-19 during their donations
